  After having ordered the fish and chips, what eventually arrived on my plate appeared to be some kind of sea monster battered with wallpaper paste and fried in plaster of Paris. The peas were suffering from hypothermia and the chips would have done well to borrow my sunscreen as they were essentially pencils by the time they were thrown in the general direction of my pre-greased table by the miserable waitress. Thankfully my girlfriend's children survived the ordeal and, with only eight sessions of post-traumatic hypnotherapy, they seem to have repressed the night-terrors induced by the thing from outer space that lurked in one of the compartments next to the accompanying veg. I'm not sure to this day what it was but when I poked it it growled at me and waved its tentacles. It was at this point I chose to quickly finish my flat cider and hastily follow my good lady and her traumatized offspring out of the door, never to return. On reflection we should have gone to Whitby. Or Basra. Either would have been more enjoyable.
